It is said that you can sell almost anything on eBay. This is true for creative services such as such as printing and graphic design services such as logo design. There is a lot of competition within the listings, or so it appears. But when you look closely enough you will see the same old listings ranking in the top ten of the search results with mine being one of them. This article is not so much a how-to Sell a logo designing service on eBay but more a this is what works for me.
If you are in the market for buying a new logo design package then you will be interested in my post A guide to buying a logo design service on eBay.
Why is eBay a good place to Sell a logo designing service?
eBay is a marketplace venue. It is somewhere in cyberspace that buyers go buy and sellers go to sell. Some of your potential audiences have already gathered together ready to look at your wares. Some arrive by chance and bookmark a search result for later interest. Others are already in the market for a logo designing service and have been lead to the eBay pages as a result from a google or bing search. And there are the seasoned sellers wanting to spice up their existing branding or are looking to create a new look. They already know what to be found on eBay and are used to sourcing materials and equipment from the same site they sell on.
As you can see, eBay is a good readymade source of potential clientele.
First steps to selling a logo designing service on eBay.
Of course, the first thing you need is an eBay business account. Not too difficult to set up. If you are already selling on eBay as a private user it may be beneficial to convert this to a business account if you have built up some feedback. You will not be able to reverse this process, however. You can create a username to your business. You can change this username once every thirty days if needed.
Why a business account?
If you are buying or making items to sell on then you are operating as a business, no matter how small. As well as complying with eBay’s terms and conditions there are legal obligations that are covered by a business account and there are also advantages too.
Before listing a logo designing service on eBay.
Here are some search terms to try out on eBay so you can see how the land lies. Don’t be put off by the high volume. After a couple of pages, the search results become less relevant and a little filtering through the category tree will soon show the true and lower number of logo designing service on eBay.
Based on these key phrases take a look at the competition logo designing services on eBay and see how the different service providers market themselves. Look at their titles and item descriptions. Ask yourself, can I offer something like this or that one maybe, and ask yourself can I do something better. Think about what you can do and how long it may take. Then design your product to your client without asking too much of yourself.
List your logo designing service on eBay.
Work out what you to include in your logo designing service product listing. You need to be realistic with what you can achieve within a given time frame. Unlimited revisions are a great selling point bout you need to be aware of the “unlimited revisions trap” and be clear about what you are offering revisions on. To the reader of your detailed listing revisions are often confused with concepts and you will find yourself with a client who will push the limits and change the brief several times and will keep you busy for days on end. Unless you are charging hundreds of pounds for the service this is not the trap you want to full into. And if you want to Sell a logo designing service on eBay you need to keep the cost down in order to compete.
Turnover is key.
As mentioned above. eBay is a ready filled source of potential clients. The eBay buyer. People go to eBay for three good reasons. They are looking for value, they are looking for a choice and they are looking for a bargain. You will encounter all three of these kinds of buyers. But some of these people will also expect it now. If you can cater for this clientele then all is good. The most I have sold a logo designing service on eBay is £49.99 when I am in high demand but on average I can sell between £10 and £20 depending on demand. This is a lot better than all the freelancer and crowdsourcing sites as you can actually sell your logo designing service on eBay. If you can happily turn out 10 projects in a week during your spare time while watching TV or listening to an audiobook it is a good way to supplement your income.
A good title and detailed description.
The title should be keyword rich but at the same time descriptive. You want it to be searchable so it will turn up in the search result pages but once it is there, it needs to be readable to your potential client and it needs to call out to them. Try putting yourself in their shoes. What would you be searching for?
Let people know what you are offering in your own words. Do not copy and paste, this will get your listings pushed lower in the search results automatically and could get you thrown off the site if the original author should report the plagiarism.
Here are some key features you may consider including.
Included number of concepts.
Include revisions. ”Unlimited” is popular, but be clear about what you are offering to revise. Revisions on all concepts could lead you to the “unlimited revisions trap” Offering the revisions on a chosen concept from the start keeps it simple for both you and the client and is more in line with the kind of price you can expect to get from an eBay transaction.
Copyright ownership. This is an obvious one as the client is effectively employing you to design their logo but people still ask. Offering it as an included feature clarifies this for the buyer.
I offer a conditional money back guarantee. Basically, if you don’t like the initial draft concepts offered you can have your money back. Ask for revisions or finalisations then the guarantee becomes void.
A picture can speak a thousand words.
You get to upload a maximum of twelve product images to upload and display in your listing. This is your opportunity to exhibit your previous works of art. Best practice is to show actual works you created for actual clients. Unless you have just started out you should have some theses at your disposal already. Do not use watermarks on your images for any reason. eBay will be disallowing the use of such branding in early 2018.
I like to use a mixture of contact sheet/collage collection style images, singled out specimen logo designs and mockups of logo designs being put to use. As a business card or van signing for example.
Name your price.
First of all, you will need to be realistic here. As mentioned before, this is eBay. People are hoping to find what they are looking for at exceptional value for money. They want a usable quality product at the lowest price posable.
Maybe so, but we do not want to go as low as that and work our buts off for little return. So don’t try to out price the lowest price there. For one it just makes you look cheap and tacky and for two it makes the other guy look less cheap and tacky. Go at least two levels above. £9.99 is a good place to start and as you become more proficient and your client group begins to grow and you start to develop feedback and build a reputation you can raise your price accordingly.
Forget auctions. They no longer perform and they hardly get noticed in a sea of buy now items. Be sure to select “good until cancelled” GTC when creating the listing for your logo designing service on eBay. Once your item starts selling it will collect invisible points that go towards it’s search ranking. The theory is that the more sales the higher the ranking. This VIP treatment is shared so you can place fourth for a couple of days and eighth for a couple more. Get a short burst of multiple sales over a weekend you could be placed between third and first place. You should not allow the listing to end as this will have an adverse effect on your search ranking. If it should end by mistake then be sure to use the relist link rather than the sell similar.
All good things.
Publish your listing and be patient while your listing is indexed by eBay’s search engine. If you have followed this guide you will probably rank on the first page or top fifty as a start usually around
position ten. If your listing looks inviting enough you should collect a watcher or two in a couple of days. Sales will follow soon after. maybe a trickle at first but once you start to impress feedback and word of mouth will prevail. The use of social media will give your new listing a helpful boost. Good luck with your new logo designing adventure.
Over to you.
